The Fox Hound & the Shepherd..

Jun 2nd, 2009 | By Spike | Category: From the desk of Ottis Moore

Its always good to hear how the pets are doing once they get adjusted to their new forever homes..

Scuffle was a lonely, widowed, 3 year old Fox Hound. And, Wiley was a good looking, young, female Shepherd mix born in March 08. We rescued and adopted out all 5 of her siblings within a month’s time, save her. She was our foster and at many adoptions for about 6 months….until she met Mr. Right at PetSmart 92.

Here’s a note from Wiley’s new owner

Happy Tails for Wiley

I ran across your email today and I thought I would give you an update on Wiley… well we call her Rogue.

She has become a wonderful addition to the family.  Our male hound, Scuffle, so needed a pack to lead and she seems to love filling that role.  Our original pack started years ago, long before we got Scuffle, and consisted of 2 female puppies and a male cat.

The cat was Alpha believe it or not.  I never realized how much that relationship affected our two females until we got scuffle.  He never really seemed to understand his place because the 2 females, which were quite mature by this time, never really had a pack mentality.

When they passed, it was very hard on him.  When Rogue first came into our lives, both immediately fell into their natural roles.  It took us a few days to realize that Rogue wasn’t going to eat until Scuffle was done, no matter what we did.

It also took us a bit to understand that strangers need to be “cleared” with Scuffle before being introduced to Rogue – he is extremely protective of her, almost as much as he is of me.

They love to play together and seem so very happy.  During the day, she will lay under my desk while I work and he will sleep by the door of my office so that he can keep an eye on everything.

He has taught her that it is okay to play inside (which apparently she was not used to doing), and she taught him the meaning of the word “Bacon”.  This is apparently a word she knew very well.  It was really amazing; I think both of their vocabularies doubled in a matter of days.

Anyway, I just thought I would let you know that she is doing very well and we are so glad to have her as part of our family.

Thanks, Eva
