Question: Are you the same animal rescue as the shelter in Canton?
Answer: No. Cherokee County Humane Society is not affiliated with the Cherokee County Animal Shelter in Canton.
We are not part of the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. They are a separate entity supported by your tax dollars. The Cherokee County Humane Society is private and receives no local, state or federal support. We thrive solely through our thrift store and your generous donations.

Question: How do I report suspected abuse or neglect of an animal?
Answer: Please call the Cherokee County Marshal’s office at (678) 493-6200. We urge you to report cruelty to or neglect of any animal to the marshal’s office as soon as it is discovered. It is beneficial to provide proof of the abuse or neglect by taking photos or videotape of the situation. Examples of cruelty/neglect may include but are not limited to:
- Beating or physically abusing an animal
- Wiring or duct taping an animal’s mouth closed
- Lack of adequate food, fresh water, warm shelter in the winter
- Lack of cool/shaded shelter in the summer
- Contaminated living area
- Keeping the animal on very short chain
- Not providing medical care for a sick animal
- Keeping an animal in a cage that is too small
- Intentional frequent breeding of an animal
