Snap - Spay & Neuter
1.Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP): SNAP was formed in January of 2001 for the purpose providing financial help to the senior citizens of Cherokee County in having their companion animals (dogs and cats) spayed and neutered; many were on fixed incomes and could not afford the cost at a veterinary clinic. Shortly thereafter, the program was expanded to help any resident of Cherokee County with the spay or neuter of their animals if they received any one of several types of public assistance, such as:
Food Stamps
Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled
Supplemental Social Security
Temporary Aid to Needy Families
Aid to the Needy Blind
Medicaid
Senior Assistance/Meals on Wheels
Peachcare
Heat Assistance
Assisted Lunch Program
WIC
Housing Assistance Program
Annual Income below $24K
Those requesting this assistance must complete an application, attach documentation of need, and return it to CCHS for approval. Once approved, the pet is scheduled with our C.A.R.E. (Canine Altering to Reduce Euthanasia) for dogs, Operation CatSnip for cats, or with one of several local veterinarians who have agreed to participate in SNAP at a reduced fee. Each participant is charged a small co-pay depending on their situation, and CCHS takes care of the remaining cost.
Be a responsible pet owner - have your animals spayed and neutered. This is the only answer to animal overpopulation and the needless death of thousands of animals every year. One cat can produce 1,728 cats in just THREE years, and there are not homes for them all! Altering also improves the health of your pet by greatly reducing the risk of several types of cancer, injuries from fights, and eliminates the unpleasant spraying of male cats.
BE PART OF THE SOLUTION NOT PART OF THE PROBLEM!!
CCHS offers an extremely low cost altering program called SNAP (short for Spay-Neuter Assistance Program). It is designed to provide low cost altering of companion animals for the county’s residents who cannot afford to pay for this important procedure.
